A reader checks in and wanted me to tell you about a community meeting that’s happening this Thursday, Aug. 29.

The meeting, hosted by the Decatur Heights and Sycamore Ridge Neighborhood Watches, is specifically targeted at residents of District 1. It will focus primarily on public safety and Decatur Police Chief Mike Booker is one of the featured speakers. The venue is The Church at Decatur Heights, located at 735 Sycamore Drive.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m.

Topics on the agenda include:

• City-wide crime updates
• Community policing
• Neighborhood watches
• Helpful safety tips

In addition to Chief Booker, other attendees will be Deputy Chief Keith Lee, police spokeswoman Sgt. Jennifer Ross, District 1 Commissioners Fred Boykin and Scott Drake and Mayor Jim Baskett.
