Two Teens Robbed on Decatur Square

Share

Decatur’s had robberies and attempted robberies lately where no weapon was used, including the man who pointed a finger at pedestrian and demanded his iPhone.

Another such robbery happened Friday night and it’s unsettling because the victims were two teenagers and the location was the Decatur Court Square. That spot should have been busy with people at restaurants and folks who left the Decatur High homecoming game.

Police were called about 10:40 p.m. The teens gave this account.

The boy and girl were sitting on the community bandstand and had just gotten up to leave when two men who looked to be in their mid-30s approached. One asked the girl her name, age and what school she attended and the other man asked the boy if he’d sell them marijuana.

The boy said no and the man asked if he had change for a $10 bill. When the boy opened his wallet and handed over two $5 bills the man reached in and grabbed a $20 bill.

The men walked away and the one who took the money said, “You know what it is.” They were last seen heading south on North McDonough Street.

The teens described both suspects as black males. One was 5-foot-11 and 160 pounds with an unshaven face, an oversized gray hoodie and dark jeans. The second suspect was 6 feet and 130 pounds with short hair, a receding hairline and a gray hoodie.
