The funeral for Shirley Kendrick will be at 1 p.m. tomorrow, Nov. 7, at Israel Missionary Baptist Church in Atlanta. The church is located at 2071 Hosea L. Williams Drive in Atlanta. Services will begin at 1 p.m., according to Kendrick’s obituary.

Kendrick died on Oct. 29, allegedly beaten and stabbed to death by her grandson. She became Decatur’s first homicide victim since 2010.

She was a well-known presence in Decatur’s Oakhurst community and was beloved by residents of Cambridge Avenue where she lived. In 2002, she received a Hometown Hero award from the city of Decatur. Oakhurst residents organized a vigil for her on Nov. 1.
