Update to Community links: Souper Jenny Will Open in Old Pita Pit Spot

Decatur Metro reports that Souper Jenny will open a location in Decatur on Feb. 3. No word on where the restaurant will be located, however.

Update at 5:39 p.m. Monday. Souper Jenny responded with an email to say that her new restaurant in Decatur will be located in the old Pita Pit spot at 1 W. Court Square. Pita Pit closed in early November.

– The Associated Press reports that a man from Tanzania is charged with possessing a firearm while being in the country on an invalid visa, which he obtained to attend DeVry University in Decatur, Ga.

Apparently, the man shot a few rounds into another man’s car while he was working at a convenience store in Mississippi. To read the full story, click here.

– Linda Harris, assistant director of Community and Economic development for the city of Decatur, sent along the following information about trash pickup for Christmas and New Year’s Day.

* Monday, Dec. 23 and Tuesday, Dec. 24: solid waste and recycling services will be the regular pick up.

* Wednesday, Dec. 25 & Thursday, Dec. 26: The city is closed. Regular solid waste and recycling services for Thursday, Dec. 26 and Friday, Dec. 27 will both be picked up on Friday, Dec. 27.

* Jan. 1: New Year’s Day is on Wednesday, so there are no changes to the regular solid waste and recycling schedule that week.
