Renfroe¬†Middle School’s old gymnasium is being converted into seven new classrooms and Principal Derrick Thomas recently provided parents with an update on the project.

“We are extremely excited to be adding much needed classroom space without affecting the footprint of our school,” he said.

The contractor, Turner Construction, says that they expect to finish up by the end of the school year.

“In the past few weeks, progress has been made on finishing walls and preparing for paint, installing ceilings and light fixtures, etc.,” the contractor said in its update to parents. “Shortly, exterior windows will arrive on site to close in the new window openings for each classroom.”

Construction lasts from 7 am to 7 pm Monday through Friday, and Saturday from 9 am to 6 pm as needed.

How is there 10 months of work remaining on a project that required no changes to the building footprint?

    • End of the school year. Sorry, added that word to clarify.

Sorry, but I moved out of town for college, and am trying to catch up some. Was there another gym built previously? What is RMS doing for their PE program with the loss of their gym?

A new gym was built a few years ago. So the old gym was just used for the after school program and random activities.
