Decaturites who’ve been salivating over the prospect of Souper Jenny should be able to get a free sample on Thursday afternoon, a day before the actual Friday opening of the restaurant at 1 West Court Square.

Souper Jenny owner Jenny Levison said she plans to hold a “friends and family” opening at 5 pm Thursday.

“Everybody’s welcome to come by” for free soup as long as supplies last, she said. The Decatur restaurant is an expansion of the popular Souper Jenny in Buckhead.

The soft opening at the restaurant in the old Pita Pit space will be part of the city government’s Fall In Love Indie-Catur event that takes place from 5-8 pm Thursday.

Of course, the weather may put a damper on things. Linda Harris from city hall said a decision would be made Thursday morning about whether to proceed with the event. “We’re keeping our fingers crossedmaking a decision tomorrow once we see what happens tonight…,” she said by email.

The Weather Channel’s website forecasts 40 degrees with sunny skies at 5 pm Thursday.

Television station 11Alive was planning to join Decatur Active Living for an Olympic All Access Pass Show to celebrate the Sochi Winter Olympics but 11 Alive cancelled.
