The Republican controlled Senate on Feb. 26 approved a bill that would allow for the creation of a new city of Lakeside and the Democrat who represents that district wasn’t too happy about it.

State Sen. Jason Carter took to the floor of the Senate to blast his Republican colleagues, in particular State Sen. Fran Millar, for moving forward with the Lakeside bill. Millar represents Senate District 40 and Carter, who is running for governor, represents Senate District 42.  According to the Atlanta Business Chronicle, the bill passed 32-17. It must be approved by the House before it can move forward.

According to WABE, Millar said the bill gives people who live in the proposed city a chance to control their own future.

“All I’m trying to do is give people a right to vote,” Millar said, according to WABE. “This is a self-determination bill.”
