The Republican controlled Senate on Feb. 26 approved a bill that would allow for the creation of a new city of Lakeside and the Democrat who represents that district wasn’t too happy about it.

State Sen. Jason Carter took to the floor of the Senate to blast his Republican colleagues, in particular State Sen. Fran Millar, for moving forward with the Lakeside bill. Millar represents Senate District 40 and Carter, who is running for governor, represents Senate District 42.  According to the Atlanta Business Chronicle, the bill passed 32-17. It must be approved by the House before it can move forward.

According to WABE, Millar said the bill gives people who live in the proposed city a chance to control their own future.

“All I’m trying to do is give people a right to vote,” Millar said, according to WABE. “This is a self-determination bill.”

Here’s what Carter had to say about the bill. Watch:

Interesting. If I were a Democrat voter after seeing this, I would question how effective Mr. Carter would be if elected governor. If he apparently can’t influence one powerful senator, how on earth will he be able to move his agenda through what most likely will remain a legislature dominated by the Republican Party.
In my opinion, the Democratic Party in Georgia will not make progress at the state level until one of their leaders moves towards the center concerning social issues, especially on abortion. Until then, they will remain as powerless as the good senator from the 42 district appears to be in this video clip.

The least he could have done after that speech was stick around to vote. But he didn’t.
