On the wagon – Dems say Reed will endorse Carter

Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed may be changing his tune about state Sen. Jason Carter’s bid to become Georgia’s next governor.

Reed, if you’ll recall, wasn’t waving pom poms back in January when reporters asked him about Carter’s candidacy to unseat incumbent Republican Gov. Nathan Deal. Reed reportedly has gubernatorial ambitions of his own, and has maintained a good working relationship with the governor.

In January, Reed said, “I’m not a bandwagon jumper” when he was asked if he would support Carter. Reed complained that Carter didn’t support him during his bids to become Mayor of Atlanta. Now 11 Alive reports that state Democrats anticipate Reed will endorse Carter in a way that will make it clear he fully backs the party’s nominee for governor.

“Democratic sources say the two men have communicated in recent days to arrange what Democrats hope will be a ringing endorsement by the mayor of Carter’s candidacy,” the 11 Alive story says.
