Brookhaven’s city manager received “tens of thousands” in consulting fees that weren’t approved by the city council, the Brookhaven Post reports.

The Post, citing an op-ed written on Patch.com by Mayor J. Max Davis, said that City Manager Marie Garrett received a $44,000 pay raise that wasn’t approved by the City Council. The Post did a little more digging and discovered that Garrett received much more in consulting fees approved by the mayor.

According to The Post, “Paycheck stubs show in the first three months of 2014, Garrett has received $49,153.84 in salary and $11,700.00 in consulting fees – as well as her car allowance of $600.00 per month. Add in $1583.50 for monthly insurance reimbursements and another pension annuity of 25% of her annual salary, she is on track to receive well over $300,000.00 again this year in total compensation – well above than the $214,000.00 base salary stated by Mayor Davis.”
