Oakhurst Jazz Nights will return for its 10th season on April 3.

The free concert series began in 2004, and will be held at Scottish Rite located at 321 W. Hill Street, Decatur, GA in the heart of Oakhurst. The opening act is percussionist Emrah Kotan, who is also the Director of Jazz and World Percussion Ensembles at Agnes Scott College.

The event is presented by the Oakhurst Neighborhood Association. The announcement from ONA says, “Bring cash to each evening throughout the Spring Series Jazz Nights as the Oakhurst Neighborhood Association will be conducting a raffle for great prizes from local businesses. Tickets will be sold for $1 and all proceeds will be used to support Jazz Nights, Block Parties, Grants and other ONA programs.”

Here’s the program listing for the rest of the month:

Thursday April 10 – Jason Passmore

Thursday April 17 – Audry Shakir

Thursday April 24 – Dan Baraszu & David Ellington

The concerts start at 7 pm and are held on the front lawn of the Solarium at 321 W. Hill Street. People who want a more intimate experience can reserve a candlelit table that provides a front-row view of the concert for $25.

“Each table seats up to four and comes complete with chairs, fresh linens, and a custom candle-lit centerpiece,” the ONA says. “Reservations are $25 per table, per night. If you are interested, please email us at concerts@oakhurstjazznights.com.”

Here’s a little bit more from ONA about Kotan, the opener for the series:

Emrah Kotan is a classically trained percussionist who came to the United States from his native Turkey. The New Anatolian Experience, his current CD, is a collection of original compositions and arrangements that fuse world music and jazz, creating stylistically sophisticated vibes and a genuine model of personal artistic expression. After playing some of the most renowned venues in the world such as the Istanbul JazzFestival, Playboy Jazz Festival and The Blue Note in New York, Emrah is one of the most sought after musicians in the Atlanta music scene. His unique musical ability transcends many genres and cultures. He is involved in various musical projects, including his own, and is the drummer/percussionist for Grammy award winning artist, India.Arie.
