Attorneys representing gay couples in Georgia who want to wed have filed a massive class action lawsuit to overturn the state’s constitutional amendment banning gay marriage.

The news was first reported by The GA Voice.  According to The Voice, two of the plaintiffs featured in the story are Shane Thomas and Michael Bishop and they are being represented by Lambda Legal, a nonprofit group that provides legal representation for lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, and transgender people.

Georgia voters approved the constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage in 2004, but a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling called the legality of that ban into question, according to The GA Voice.

Editor’s note: The GA Voice sent a message clarifying that Shane Thomas and Michael Bishop were plaintiffs in the lawsuit but not lead plaintiffs. This story has been updated to reflect that clarification.
