Parents with kids attending Westchester Elementary will have an opportunity on Friday, April 4, to meet the school’s principal, Rochelle Lofstrand.

The event will be hosted by Oakhurst Elementary School in the media center.

There will be two opportunities: 7:45-8:15 am and 2:55 pm, according to the announcement.

UPDATE: Oakhurst Elementary just sent the following announcement about tomorrow’s event: “In case of rain tomorrow afternoon, the community circle will be cancelled and the afternoon session of the Westchester Meet and Greet will begin in the media center at 2:25pm.

“If your child is heading to Westchester and you have questions, this is a great opportunity to ask them,” the announcement says. “It’s also a chance to get to know our awesome new principal.

The City Schools of Decatur Board of Education in February named Lofstrand as the new Westchester Elementary principal.

According to CSD, she has been the assistant principal at Decatur High for the last three years. Before that, she was a ninth grade administrator, data support specialist and a science teacher at North Springs Charter High in Fulton County.

The school system closed Westchester in 2004 because enrollment was dropping. K-3 enrollment has risen about 75 percent since then. Westchester will reopen this fall.
