A local business will soon leave Decatur and open up shop in Avondale Estates.

Mama Bath + Body announced on May 13 that it will leave the location it opened in 2009 and head to Tudor Village in Avondale, the building that contains the old Towne Cinema. Additionally, the retailer will also open a location at Old Fourth Ward’s Krog Street Market later this summer.

Owner Emilie Sennebogen Bryant said the current location in Decatur is a little off the beaten path.

“We’re next to Blue Tarp brewery, tucked into a parking lot,” she said.

So what was attractive about Avondale, aside from a store front the city’s main thoroughfare? Bryant said the ongoing revitalization of the city’s downtown was a draw. She said restaurants like Pallookaville have breathed new life into an area that for years struggled to gain a toehold in the market as Decatur flourished.

“My husband grew up in Stone Mountain in the 80’s and fondly remembers going to see movies at the Town Cinema and eating at the old Avondale Pizza Café location, so it’s exciting to see downtown Avondale coming back.  Several other new businesses are opening in our building this summer and we feel like it’s going to be a great new home base for us,” Bryant said via press release.

The Avondale Estates store will have its grand opening on June 7 and there will be gifts for the first 30 shoppers who visit the store’s new location.
