Students from Decatur’s 4/5 Academy at Fifth Avenue had to catch another ride home Wednesday afternoon after a garbage truck rear-ended their school bus.

There were no injuries, City Schools of Decatur spokesperson Courtney Burnett said. She said the accident happened as the bus was crossing West Ponce De Leon Avenue from East Parkwood Road to get to Scott Boulevard.

The bus was towed away, Burnett said.  She was unsure about the extent of the damage.

Burnett said some parents came to pick their children up, and CSD sent another bus to gather up the remaining children on the bus. Burnett rode with them.

“All the kids were returned home safe,” Burnett said.
