The Cask Room received an alcoholic beverage license from the Decatur City Commission on June 16, but there wasn’t much in the way of detail about the new business.

A memo attached to the license application said The Cask Room will be located in a former yoga studio at 900 West College Avenue, and not much else.

During the City Commission meeting, Decaturish received an email from The Cask Room’s co-President, Vita Wilson, who provided additional information about the business.

“We are a full service wine and beer establishment dedicated to providing a unique experience to our consumers through the use of automatic wine dispensers and serving specialty craft beers,” Wilson said. “We will offer events showcasing specialty craft beers and also premium wines from around the world. We will also offer small plates, including charcuterie, cheese plates, specialty crepes, and deserts. We are very excited to be a part of the Decatur community, and our goal is to provide a relaxing, educational, and welcoming atmosphere for the community.”

Wilson didn’t say when the business might open, but under the terms of the beverage license it will have to open within six months.

  • This sounds similar to that wine tasting shop that opened (and closed shortly thereafter) on Ponce near where Jimmy John’s is now. I wonder if it will fare better with the combo of beer and wine?

Tastings had a nice lineup of draft and bottle craft beers and a full bar. I miss that place and the Friday $5 martinis. They did some nice food with a minimalist kitchen, too.
