Avondale Estates City Commission will have a special called meeting this week to hold a hearing on the city’s millage rate.

The meeting will be held June 4, stating with a work session at 5:30 pm. Meetings are held at 21 North Avondale Plaza and are open to the public.

Mayor Ed Rieker sent an email to residents on May 22 informing them that the advertised millage rate increase – 11.2 mills – is a “placeholder” and that the city intends to keep its current rate of 10.957 mills.

“Due to the constraints placed on the City by law, DeKalb County municipalities are required to adopt a millage rate by July 1, 2014,” Rieker explained. “It is possible that our Tax Digest could experience a change (up or down) just shortly before this July 1st reporting deadline.”

Avondale Estates fiscal year runs from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31.
