This story has been updated.

According to Decatur Police there have been five vehicles stolen in the city in the last 10 days.

There were four thefts reported in the city’s northeast zone and one in the southeast zone. Three of the car thefts happen during the day, according to Decatur Police Sgt. Jennifer Ross. One was stolen during the evening and one was stolen sometime during a three-day period, she said.

Here is a summary of each incident:

– On June 30, someone stole a 1998 Plymouth Grand Voyager from a roadway in the 100 block of Champlain Street between 8 am and 5:50 pm. Investigators learned that the vehicle was abandoned and recovered by DeKalb Police before the victim reported the vehicle stolen to Decatur Police.

– On June 30, at approximately 5 pm, someone stole a 1997 Honda Accord from the 100 block of Candler Oaks Lane. The owner told police he was walking and saw a vehicle that looked like his at the red light on Kirk Road at South Candler Street. He returned to where he’d parked his vehicle and saw it was missing. He didn’t see the suspect. DeKalb County Police recovered the abandoned vehicle later that same day.

– On July 4, someone stole a 1994 Nissan Pathfinder from a roadway in the 400 block of Sycamore Drive between 2 pm and 3:50 pm. The owner was working on the vehicle in front of his residence and had left his key in the ignition. Someone stole the vehicle when he went inside for a minute. A neighbor reported seeing a middle-aged black male, skinny with short hair and wearing a white ball cap, get into the vehicle and take off. The neighbor thought the man was helping the owner work on the vehicle.

– On July 6, someone stole a 1999 Toyota Corolla from a roadway in the 200 block of Sycamore Place. The vehicle was stolen sometime between noon on July 3 and 10 am on July 6.

– On July 10, someone stole a 1996 Honda Accord from a driveway in the 200 block of Lockwood Terrace. The vehicle was stolen sometime between 7 pm on July 9 and 5 am on July 10.

Sgt. Ross said, “Please continue to watch out for your neighbors and call police immediately if you observe suspicious behavior or circumstances.  Your awareness and calls help guide the officers in the right direction and result in prevention and arrests.”
