Things got a little crazy for a minute near Woodruff Park in downtown Atlanta this afternoon.

According to Atlanta Police, at about 4 pm Aug. 27, an APD officer tried to question a man who looked like he was drinking alcohol in the park.

The man kept walking, and met with a Georgia State University Officer. The GSU officer was trying to give the APD officer an assist in apprehending the man, police said. The man pulled out a large butcher knife and stabbed the GSU officer.

An APD officer saw the attack and shot the man. Both the GSU officer and the man were taken to the hospital and are in stable condition police said.

Bystanders shot this video of the shooting. Warning: The footage is graphic.

Police recovered the knife at the scene.

“APD’s Office of Professional Standards and Homicide Unit are conducting an investigation, as is customary with officer-involved shootings,” Officer John Chafee said. “The Fulton County District Attorney’s Office was also on scene.”
