Atlanta Police are investigating the shooting of an Atlanta firefighter by an Atlanta Police officer on Sunday evening in KIrkwood.

According to police, at 8 pm on Sept. 7, APD responded to a call of someone pointing a gun at someone else on Clifford Avenue. The officer who arrived at the scene started investigating. APD said the “situation escalated” and the officer shot the armed person once in the shoulder. The person was transported to the hospital and is in stable condition, APD says.

“The subject has been preliminarily identified as a firefighter with Atlanta Fire Rescue,” A statement from APD says. “A gun was recovered on scene. Charges are pending. APD’s Homicide and OPS are investigating on scene.”

APD says it is not releasing any additional details at this time.

“Our Homicide Unit is conducting a thorough investigation into what transpired between the responding police officer and the firefighter who was shot, including the events that prompted the initial 911 call,” a statement from APD says. “Nothing further will be released until investigators have been able to adequately process and verify the information they’ve received regarding the shooting.”
