This is a map of areas described in legislation filed by state Rep. Karla Drenner, D-Avondale Estates, that would’ve called for an annexation referendum. This map was created by the City of Tucker Initiative website and published on March 24.

The city of Avondale Estates has called a special work session to discuss annexation following a contentious meeting about the issue.

During a Sept. 22 City Commission meeting, residents confronted City Commissioners and Mayor Ed Rieker about plans to annex homes on Katie Kerr and the Forrest Hills Neighborhood during a City Commission meeting on Sept. 22. Rieker has been meeting with these neighborhoods, but the issue hasn’t been discussed formerly during City Commission meetings.

During the Sept. 22 meeting Rieker apologized to residents and promised to call a special work session. Today, the city announced the work session will be held on Oct. 1 at 5:30 pm at City Hall, located at 21 North Avondale Plaza. All meetings are open to the public.

“The agenda consists of a discussion on annexation and an opportunity for public comment,” the meeting announcement says.
