Decatur Police arrested two men accused of robbing a man walking in downtown Decatur during the early morning hours of Sept. 22

Sgt. Jennifer Ross said police responded to the call around 1 am. The victim was at the corner of East Trinity Place and North McDonough Street. He told police he was walking in the area when two men walked up behind him. One of the men punched him and told him to give up his backpack. The other man started hitting the victim and demanded the backpack. The victim gave up the backpack and the suspects ran toward Church Street. The victim was cut and bruised in the attack.

The victim realized that they had also taken his phone, wallet and cash. A witness to the event told an officer that he saw two men running into the MARTA station entrance on Church Street. Both MARTA and Decatur Police officers searched the train station. The officers found the two men matching the description of the suspects on the train platform, and they had the victim’s backpack. The victim identified the suspects, Ross said.

Police arrested Dewayne Bacon, 23, and Alijuwon Brown, 19. Both men are from Brunswick, Ga. Ross said. Police also charged Brown with marijuana possession.
