Got questions about annexation in Avondale Estates?

The city of Avondale Estates has answers.

Today the city launched its annexation page. It includes a presentation from the Oct. 1 Work Session. To download that presentation, click this link: annexation-BOMC-work-session-100114

The page also contains audio of the entire meeting. To hear that audio, click here.

Mayor Ed Rieker called the work session after a meeting on Sept. 22 where residents confronted him about the filing of House Bill 1130. State Rep. Karla Drenner, D-Avondale Estates, introduced the bill at Rieker’s request, but commissioners had never discussed it publicly or passed a resolution in favor of it. Many residents of Avondale and the surrounding communities it would like to annex were surprised to hear about the bill. Riker called that a mistake, and each commissioner offered an apology for the situation.

(Sorry if this turns out to be a duplicated post.) It’s interesting to note the conflict here between Briarcliff and Avondale/Decatur. Last year I recall Briarcliff said it wouldn’t oppose Decatur getting a piece of the pie. Does this mean the Briarcliff crowd has changed their minds and will fight for all that commercial property?
