For several weeks now passersby have noticed the glowing pink sign for Jeni’s Ice Creams on the Decatur Square.

On Monday, as crews were putting the finishing touches on their new space, a couple of folks walked in wondering if the store had opened.

Not yet, the employees said. But soon.

This Thursday, at 7 pm, Jeni’s will be serving up free scoops of its ice cream, made with milk from grass-fed cows raised within 50 miles of Columbus, Ohio. The party ends at 10 pm, and the first 50 people will receive “a limited edition print created by the Jeni’s Splendid Art + Design Team,” according to the company’s website.

The store will officially open on Friday, Nov. 7. The menu includes flavors like Brambleberry Crisp and Goat Cheese with Red Cherries.

Decatur will be Jeni’s 18th store, and there’s another one planned for the Krog Street Market. There’s currently a Jeni’s on Howell Mill Road in the Westside Provisions District.

An employee from the head office, who asked not to be named because he isn’t authorized to speak on behalf of the company, on Monday was overseeing preparations for the store’s grand opening. “The town is amazing,” he told Decaturish. “There’s definitely this strong foodie vibe around here I think we fell in love with the community and the Decatur Square area when we were looking for the next place in Atlanta.”

Jeni’s is opening up shop in the old Froyolo location. It’s the second ice cream shop to open up in Decatur this year. Butter and Cream opened during the summer, right across from the Yogurt Tap.

“We’re excited,” the Jeni’s employee said. “The more the merrier. I think there’s room for everyone here. We kind of feed off each other and all the restaurants around here.”
