During its meeting on Dec. 15 the Avondale Estates City Commission unanimously approved the annexation of 154 town homes in the Stratford Green neighborhood off of Covington Road.

The annexation becomes effective on Jan. 1, 2015.

“This annexation will bring the City’s population up to approximately 3,360, an increase of roughly 400 new residents,” the city said via email.

Stratford Green was annexed into the city using the 60 percent method, which required signatures of 60 percent of property owners and 60 percent of registered voters.

“As a show of community support, 75.2 percent of landowners and 74.2 percent of registered voters from Stratford Green signed a petition requesting annexation,” the city’s email says. ” … Stratford Green petitioners wrote they are committed to being a welcoming, safe and active community that is also a desirable place to live.”

Stratford will bring in $133,449 in tax revenue while costing the city $28,271 to provide services.

The city is also crafting a master annexation plan to present to the city’s legislative delegation for the 2015 session, but has delayed approving the plan until January.
