The city of Avondale Estates is holding another work session annexation tonight, Dec. 3, starting at 7 pm. The meeting will be held at City Hall, located at 21 North Avondale Plaza. All meetings are open to the public.

The agenda posted on the city’s website doesn’t offer much detail, but commissioners will likely be talking about a map that they will include in a resolution to request that state Rep. Karla Drenner, D-Avondale, file an annexation bill on the city’s behalf.

Drenner filed a bill earlier this year that included neighborhoods like Decatur Terrace and Forrest Hills, and commercial areas like the DeKalb Farmers Market and Rio Circle. The bill never made it out of the 2014 session, and controversy arose when some residents learned it had been filed. Drenner was under the impression that the bill had support from the mayor and Board of Commissioners. Later it was revealed that commissioners had never passed a resolution in favor of filing it.

Many were unaware of it and Drenner has been lukewarm about the possibility of filing another bill saying she wants to see support from residents.
