That’s the word from the National Weather Service which has a winter weather advisory in effect for several Georgia counties and cities, including Atlanta and Decatur.

The advisory is in effect from 8 pm Friday to 1 pm Saturday.

Among the warnings:

– SNOW AND ICE ACCUMULATIONS POSSIBLE FRIDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH SATURDAY

– ACCUMULATIONS…UP TO 1 INCHES OF SNOW…AND 0.1 INCHES OF ICE.

– TIMING…BEST CHANCE OF SNOW BEGINS FRIDAY EVENING BUT CANNOT RULE OUT SOME DEVELOPMENT EARLIER IN THE AFTERNOON FOR THE WESTERN PORTIONS OF THE AREA. TRANSITIONS TO SLEET AND THEN FREEZING RAIN OVERNIGHT AND EARLY SATURDAY.

– IMPACTS…UP TO 1 INCH OF SNOW AND UP TO ONE TENTH OF AN INCH OF ICE ARE POSSIBLE FRIDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH SATURDAY AFTERNOON. THESE ACCUMULATIONS WILL MAKE TRAVEL DIFFICULT. ICE ACCUMULATIONS ON TREES AND POWER LINES IS POSSIBLE. SOME TREES AND POWER LINES COULD COME DOWN CAUSING POWER OUTAGES.

City Schools of Decatur is off for winter break, but the girls’ basketball team had a big game set for Friday. That was tentatively rescheduled to Saturday at 4 pm due to the weather.

DeKalb County Schools has cancelled all of its outdoor athletics activities scheduled for Friday evening. We’ll update this story with more closing-related news as we receive it.
