Decatur’s gnome-themed celebration in honor of Earth Day, scheduled for Sunday, April 19, has been cancelled due to the weather.

Due to severe weather, the 2015 Earth Day Festival has been canceled. There is no alternative rain date for this event, so we will see you again in 2016!

The festivities were supposed to take place at the Oakhurst Garden in Decatur. The city had planned the event in conjunction with the Wylde Center.

“Gnomes are known as mythical creatures who inhabit natural areas,” Stephanie Van Parys, executive director of the Wylde Center said in a press release, announcing the event. “Kids love them because gnomes are small like they are, and often mischievous.  We’ll call on our gnome friends to help us spread the word during our Earth Day celebration about making the earth a beautiful place to live by gardening, caring for the animals that share the world with us, and recycling.”
