People looking for a cheaper, tasty dinner option that doesn’t involve a chain fast food restaurant, take note.

Monday, April 27, will be the first of many Decatur Food Truck Mondays. The event will be held on the first day of every week, from 6 pm to 9 pm at the corner of Cambridge and College Avenue. The food trucks will be in a gravel lot at the edge of the plaza that contains Revolution Doughnuts and Ale Yeah.

The menu for April 27 will be  …

The Mobile Marlay Food Truck
Genki Noodles and Sushi
The Loaded Burger
Atomic Ice Cream Sandwich
King of Pops

Alana Danner Lowe is an event coordinator who is behind the event. She is working with Colin Comer, co-owner of the Marlay House in Decatur.

Lowe said as far as she knows there hasn’t been a regular food truck event in Decatur.

“Decatur is awesome and flush with a lot of great food and a lot of local business owners that are amazing and I think they like sticking with that,” she said. “That has a lot to do with it probably.”

Lowe said she picked Monday because it’s a slow night for local restaurants. Some don’t open on Mondays, meaning the Food Trucks won’t be in direct competition with them, she said.

“We’re all friendly which I think goes along with the Decatur feel,” she said.

The vendors will rotate weekly. She hopes to hold the event through November before shutting down for the winter months. But that could change if the event is popular enough and the demand is there, she added.
