The dry weather has opened up a window for the contractor working on the Oakhurst Streetscape project to install storm drain pipe.

Deputy City Manager Hugh Saxon said that the contractor, CMES, already has begun installing the pipe across Mead Road, north of Harmony Park.

“This new line will extend in an easterly direction to the northwest corner of Oakview Road and the Mead Road extension,” Saxon said.

When completed, the project will transform the heart of Oakhurst at the intersections of Oakview Road, East Lake Drive, West Hill Street and West Benson Street. There will be new sidewalks, lighting and trees along these roads. The project will also increase the size of Oakhurst’s Harmony Park. Off-street parking on the park’s south side will be replaced with a pedestrian plaza.

Saxon said the contractor had already completed “curb and sidewalk improvements on the northeast side of East Lake Drive and is making progress on the stone retaining wall along Oakview Road at the Old Scottish Rite property.”

Rainy weather has caused some delays, he said.
