Decatur High sophomore wins state track matches, soccer teams lose semi-finals

Decatur High sophomore Sam Ellis won the AAA state title for the 800 and 1600 meter runs at Memorial Stadium in Jefferson, Ga.

Ellis ran the 800 meter in 1:55.91 on May 16 and ran the 1600 meter in 4:21.03 on May 14.

Decatur Metro is also reporting that the high school girls and boys Soccer teams have both lost their semi-final matches. According to Metro, “The girls lost 6-1 to a strong Westminster team on Tuesday. The boys lost to Calhoun High School in a heartbreaking shootout on Thursday.”

    From what I saw at Jefferson Thursday Night, Sam Ellis has what it takes, before he finishes at Decatur High, to break four minutes in the 1600. Folks, he’s a premier distance runner.

    Awesome job. I was a distance runner in high school and ran at Jefferson at state, but I didn’t have the explosive kick. Even distance runners need that. Good for him.
