Decatur Police cited a driver this afternoon, May 18, for following too closely after the driver hit a cyclist traveling along Clairemont Avenue.

According to Decatur Police Lt. Jennifer Ross, “A cyclist was stopped on Clairemont Avenue at Michigan Avenue and a vehicle struck the rear tire of the bicycle knocking the cyclist off the bicycle. The cyclist had no visible injuries but complained of back pain and was transported to an area hospital to be examined. The driver of the vehicle was cited for following too close.”

Decaturish reader Barry Hall said his fiancee witnessed the incident.

“Out the window of her shuttle bus, my fiancee saw a cyclist being loaded onto an ambulance on Clairmont Road at around 6:25 tonight,” he said.
