Maynard H. Jackson High School’s girls track and field team has won its first ever AAA state title.

The Lady Jaguars competed at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany on May 9, according to the Georgia High School Association and Atlanta Public Schools.

“This is also the first win for the school’s athletic program since the boys basketball team (formerly Southside High School Lasers) won the GHSA state title in 1990,” APS said in a press release.

Eleven members of the Lady Jaguars team competed in the following events to capture the state title:

Garielle Netter – 3rd place, 100 meters; 5th place, 200 meters

Cortney Jones – 1st place, 100 meter hurdles; 4th place, 300 meter hurdles

Camilla Sims – 2nd place, shot put; 4th place, discus

Symone Sampson – 7th place, 100 meter hurdles

Kayla Jordan – 4th place, 400 meters; 10th place, 200 meters

Shyleah Catlin – 9th place, long jump

Kierra Thomas – 10th place, triple jump

Kayla Jordan, Cortney Jones, Jabrea Smith and Garielle Netter – 2nd place, 4×100 relay

Ziya Crawford, Jabrea Smith, Taryn Oniel and Kayla Jordan – 1st place, 4×400 relay

“I’m really proud of these girls,” Maynard H. Jackson High School Lady Jaguars Track & Field Head Coach Russell Thomas said. “They dedicated themselves to one goal and achieved it.”
