Decatur Deputy City Manager Hugh Saxon says work on Oakview Road has finished on schedule and the road is open again.

The city had closed the road on June 22 for work related to the ongoing Oakhurst Streetscape project. The contractor replaced about 90 linear feat of the road south of East Lake Drive.

“Next week, the City’s contractor, CMES, Inc., will continue the expansion of Harmony Park and, weather permitting,  will replace the sidewalks in front of Oakhurst Market and One Step At A Time,” Saxon said. “While there may be some inconvenience, pedestrian access to both stores will be maintained throughout construction.”

Crews started working to expand Harmony Park earlier this month as part of the Oakhurst Streetscape project.

When the project is finished, it will transform the heart of Oakhurst at the intersections of Oakview Road, East Lake Drive, West Hill Street and West Benson Street. In addition to increasing the size of Harmony Park, there will be new sidewalks, lighting, and trees along the roads.
