Decatur, Avondale Estates adjust schedules for Independence Day

July 4 falls on a Saturday this year and local governments are planning accordingly.

Avondale Estates and Decatur have both announced that city offices will be closed July 3 in observance of the holiday.

Sanitation schedules will also be affected.

According to the city of Decatur, “Regular trash and recycling services for Thursday will be on Wednesday, July 1. Regular services for Friday will be on Thursday, July 2. There will be no trash or recycling pick up on Friday, July 3.”

Decatur has also announced a revised schedule for its recreation centers.

“The Decatur Recreation Center and Ebster Recreation Center will be closed Friday, July 3  through Sunday July 5 for the 4th of July Holiday Weekend,” the city says. “We will reopen on Monday, July 6th. “Glenlake Tennis Center and the pools will be open for your enjoyment.”

The city of Avondale says, “City Hall will reopen 8 a.m. Monday, July 6. Sanitation pickup regularly scheduled for Friday will instead be picked up Monday, along with the regular Monday pickup.”

Sanitation services in DeKalb an Atlanta will operate normally. Atlanta city hall will also be closed on July 3.
