DeKalb County has severed ties with a contractor providing lifeguard services to the Browns Mill Family Aquatic Center because the company couldn’t demonstrate its lifeguards are certified.

The center will be closed until July 30, a press release from the county says. The closure comes after an 11 Alive report found that a lifeguard at the pool called 911 instead of performing CPR on a boy who nearly drowned.

“The DeKalb County Board of Commissioners voted this morning (July 28) to cancel the contract with USA Management, the company providing lifeguard service for the Browns Mill facility,” a press release from the county says. “The termination of the contract follows USA Management’s failure to provide proof of certified lifeguards. DeKalb Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs is working to provide staffing at the location.”

The aquatic center is located at 4929 Browns Mill Road in DeKalb County.
