Marchers make their way through DeKalb County
A reader asked about a march taking place on Lawrenceville Highway today.
The march has formidable police protection. Reader Chris Billingsley sent along this photo …
He said, “There were at least 20 state patrol officers protecting the marchers.”
While Billingsley didn’t catch the name of the march, it’s likely this is the “Journey for Justice” march organized by the NAACP.
According to a press release from the Georgia Department of Transportation, the march was expected to make its way down Lawrenceville Highway today, Aug. 13.
The NAACP website says, “From August 1 to September 16, America’s Journey for Justice–an historic 860-mile march from Selma, Alabama, to Washington, D.C.–will mobilize activists and advance a focused national advocacy agenda that protects the right of every American to a fair criminal justice system, uncorrupted and unfettered access to the ballot box, sustainable jobs with a living wage, and equitable public education.”
