Walmart and MARTA hosting job fairs this week

Suburban Plaza, the home of a new Walmart, expected to open this fall.

Walmart and MARTA are both hosting job fairs this week.

The Suburban Plaza Walmart Superstore, opening in Decatur, is holding a job fair August 12-14 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the DeKalb Workforce Development (DWD) building at 774 Jordan Lane, Building #4, Decatur. On the DWD website it says, “Wal-Mart Superstore #3118 is partnering with DeKalb Workforce Development to host a Job Fair/Hiring Event. This is your opportunity to engage with the Wal-Mart management team.”

The Suburban Plaza Walmart is expected to open this fall, with other businesses nearby set to open in 2016.

On Saturday, August 15, MARTA (Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority), will host a technical maintenance job fair from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. at MARTA Headquarters Atrium at 2424 Piedmont Road, NE, Atlanta.

In a press release, MARTA said, “MARTA is currently seeking qualified professionals to fill approximately 50 positions for bus inspectors; 13 positions for journeyman electronics technicians; and five journeyman electrical power and electrician positions. The starting pay is $20.20 per hour for these career opportunities.”

It goes on to say, “Applicants for the positions must meet the following requirements:”

  • Journeyman Electronic Technicians Rail Car Maintenance – High School diploma or equivalent, successful completion of specialized formal training in electronics and electronics repair and a commercial driver’s license, and a minimum of 2 ½ years of Journeyman-level experience. (Testing starts at 9 a.m.)
  • Journeyman Electrical Power and Electricians – High School diploma or equivalent, a minimum of four years of formal electrical training and four years of Journeyman-level experience in the repair of electrical assemblies and components. (Testing starts at 9 a.m.)
  • Journeyman Bus Mechanics – High School diploma or equivalent, successful completion of specialized formal training in auto or diesel mechanics or related fields from a vocational or trade school or two years of work experience, commercial driver’s license or commercial driver’s license permit with a “P” endorsement. (Testing starts at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.)
