Decatur City Commissioner Scott Drake will face two challengers as he runs for reelection this year.

Two other candidates have qualified to run for District 1 Post B: Valencia Monique Breedlove and Eric Tumperi, who qualified on Sept. 2. Drake also qualified to run on Wednesday, the last day to register to be on the ballot in the Nov. 3 elections in Decatur.

Drake was elected in 2013. It was a special election to replace Mayor Bill Floyd, who resigned. Unlike many other cities, Decatur’s mayor is elected by fellow-commissioners, not by the voters.

Here is the full list of candidates for Decatur City Commission and the City Schools of Decatur Board of Education:

Decatur City Commission

Anthony T. Powers – At Large
John P. Ridley – At Large
Brian Smith – District 2 (B)
James M. Johnson – District 2 (B)

Eric Tumperi – District 1 Post (B)

School Board

Thanks Dan. I do not recall a time when a sitting commissioner faced two challengers. I look forward to ALL the candidates having internet sites to air their views. One more thing?:
What in Tar-nation are you going to do about my taxes, downtown traffic, the schools, the lack of true diversity in the city, Decatur Next, and all those smart ass people thinkin’ we descended from monkeys?
