Decatur election qualifying: Challenger for Scott Drake, another school board candidate

The city of Decatur has sent over the list of candidates who qualified on Aug. 31 for the Nov. 3 election. There are a few surprises.

Commissioner Scott Drake, who confirmed he is seeking reelection, has a challenger: Valencia Monique Breedlove.

Also, there is another candidate for School Board. Thomas DeSimone will challenge Tasha White for the School Board seat being vacated by Julie Rhame, Election District 2, Post B.

Here is the full list of candidates, provided by the city of Decatur.

City Commission

Anthony T. Powers – At Large
John P. Ridley – At Large
Brian Smith – District 2
James M. Johnson – District 2
Valencia Monique Breedlove – District 1

City Schools of Decatur Board of Education

Tasha R. White – District 2
Thomas R. DeSimone – District 2

Decaturish will be working to contact each candidate who qualified. After qualifying has concluded, we will begin questioning the candidates about their positions on the issues facing the city of Decatur.
