Burglars stealing from a home in Decatur turned a gun on a witness who was discretely trying to film the crime with a cell phone camera.

Decatur Police Lt. Jennifer Ross said that at 12:16 p.m. on Oct. 14 police responded to a burglary in progress in the 100 block of Garland Avenue. The homeowner later contacted Decaturish to correct that report, saying her home is on Griffin Circle.

“A witness observed three to four black males wearing black hoodies and jeans committing the burglary and attempted to film the incident with his cell phone while concealing himself behind some trees/bushes,” Ross said. “One of the suspects noticed the witness and pulled a firearm and fired one time toward the direction of the witness.”

Ross said the witness wasn’t hit and didn’t suffer any other injuries. The suspects dropped electronics and fled south on Garland Avenue toward East Pharr Road in a red Hyundai sedan.
