Decatur hopes you’ll avoid the long lines on Black Friday and spend your money locally.

This weekend the city is hosting “Small Business Saturday and Sunday.”

“To honor the greatness that is Decatur’s local independent shops and restaurants, we’ll have a Small Business Saturday and Sunday tent this (weekend) on the square,” the city writes on its Decatur Minute blog.

At the tent, you’ll find:

– Free gift wrap (on any locally purchased items)

– Hot chocolate, candy and other goodies

– A chance to win a City of Decatur basket (with gifts from all over town)

– A visit from Santa (Saturday only)

– To turn in your receipts – spend $200 at local shops in Decatur during the month of November and get a $20 gift card to a local restaurant

– Holiday music and other festive things

The tent will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

According to the city, attendees can expect “a much more enjoyable shopping experience than the mall.”
