Decatur’s School Board held a special called meeting this morning and approved purchasing property next to the College Heights Early Childhood Learning Center.

The property is located at 927 South McDonough Street. It’s approximately .7 acres. The purchase price is $525,000.

The property is a single family home, according to DeKalb County tax records. The property owners of record are Lindsay and Rob Margeton. Lindsay Margeton told Decaturish that the house has been up for sale and declined to comment further.

“We don’t know anything that the general public doesn’t,” she said.

Chad Carter, a local realtor, represented the sellers. He said that he reached out to City Schools of Decatur to see if CSD had an interest in buying the property.

“I told them it would have to be a short due diligence and a quick vote,” Carter said. “It just made sense. It’s a rare home with a lot that’s very deep. It’s a 300 foot deep lot, and it runs the entire length of the College Heights school campus.”

Talani Casariego represented CSD in the transaction, Carter said.

CSD hasn’t announced what it intends to do with the property.

“Currently, there are no specific plans for the use of the property,” a statement from City Schools of Decatur says. “The Board and Superintendent will continue to evaluate the growth and construction needs of the system to determine the best use of the expanded property.”

The special called meeting was added to the  School Board’s calendar on Tuesday.

“The Board had to act quickly on this purchase due to timeline requirements of the sellers,” CSD’s statement says.

The School Board also has about six acres along Talley Street under contract.
