The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is asking for community input on the safety of Ponce de Leon Avenue/Scott Boulevard from Moreland Ave. to Clairemont Rd.

A letter sent out to some neighborhood groups explained that GDOT is working with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to conduct a Road Safety Audit. The letter provides a survey asking questions about the area to be audited.

The questions ask things like:

• How often do you travel along the RSA corridor (on Ponce de Leon Avenue from Moreland Avenue to Clairemont Avenue)?
• For what purposes do you typically travel the corridor?
• What is the mode of travel you use most often along the RSA corridor? (answers include drive alone, drive with others, bus, walk, bike, and other)

Another question asks for a ranking of how safe people feel when driving on Ponce and another asks about improving safety.

You are receiving this email because you were identified as an interested party and the audit team would like to hear your thoughts about potential safety concerns and possible solutions to those safety concerns along this stretch of road. We invite you to take a few moments to complete the survey. A Road Safety Audit (RSA) is a formal safety performance examination of an existing or future road or intersection by an audit team. RSAs have been used successfully for a wide variety of locations to identify potential solutions leading to both short-term improvements and longer term efforts including construction projects. It is a proactive tool, not solely dependent on crash data, but rather an innovative approach that includes firsthand observation to identify enhancement opportunities to be considered in improvement projects.
