Avondale Estates, Decatur judge best Christmas and holiday decorations

The city of Avondale Estates awarded seven homes and one business with the Christmas and Holiday Spirit Awards.

A city email sent out Wednesday says, “Judges drove around the City last night looking for a variety of traits including attractive use of light and color; overall effect; originality and creativity; creative display of theme; animation; use of non-lighting decorations; yard decoration; and entry and window decor.”

Finders Keepers Furnishings won for most creative display of holiday cheer by a business.

Categories for the home awards included¬†“children’s appeal” and “sparkle and pizzazz.” Other homes fell into the Avondale Elegance category, described as “a¬†Southern Living/Martha Stewart effect.”

The city of Decatur released an online Google map of the finalists in Decorate Decatur 2015. The city said on The Decatur Minute, its official blog, “Our anonymous Decorate Decatur judges have traveled all over the city to find the best holiday decorations.”

The city said the winner of the Decorate Decatur Commission Cup will be announced at the City of Decatur Commission Meeting Monday, Dec. 21 at 7:30 p.m.
