There’s a new brewpub in the works at a location near Harmony Park in Oakhurst.

The Oak Brewpub be located in a former bar, according to a post on Reddit. The owner, Daniel McKinney, says it will be located at the former Mulligans bar on East Lake Drive. He says he hopes to have the brewpub open prior to summer 2016.

According to Beer Guys Radio, “As of May 2015 Oak Brewpub was on the search for a head brewer and targeting a Late Spring 2016 opening date. The brewpub will be located in Atlanta’s Oakhurst neighborhood where they’ve signed a lease on a 4,500 square-foot space with plans to open a roof top deck garden where you can enjoy a beer or watch a movie on their projector screen.”

McKinney said he’s been in the restaurant business for 17 years and an owner for six years. He has worked primarily in San Francisco but moved back to the South in December of last year. He specializes in Southern food, and has a cooking background in French and Spanish food.

He says the restaurant will have 24 taps. Half will be in-house brews and the other half will be local craft beers. He says his business will brew mainstays like stouts, IPA’s and Kölsch-style beers.

“We’ll have different beers all the time,” he said. “What’s popular right now is whatever is seasonal.”

He’s hired Chuck Duffney, who worked at Orpheus Brewing, as his brew master. He’s also hired design firm ai3, the company behind restaurants like Gunshow and Holeman & Finch.

“As soon as the city approves everything we’ll share what it should look like,” McKinney said.

There was some speculation that it could be located in the former McGowan’s Oakhurst Pub, but plans for that space haven’t been revealed. The city, which currently owns the vacant restaurant space along with the rest of the historic Scottish Rite property, is currently working with an unidentified tenant to lease that space.
