Social media overflowed with grief and fond memories after Cooley died on Dec. 1.

Julie Rhame, a Decatur Board of Education member whose daughter Sydney had performed at Eddie’s Attic, offered her own perspective via her Facebook account.

“This is a very sad day for Atlanta and musicians everywhere,” Rhame wrote. “His impact was transformational and legendary. He’ll be sorely missed.”
