Avondale Estates and the city’s police department will hold a training sessionĀ on active shooter preparedness.

The two-hour event is part of the Avondale Citizens Safety Series, according to a city email.

It’s being held Thursday, Feb. 25 from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Avondale Estates on 47 Covington Rd.

The city email said, “The topic of how to respond to an active shooter event is one that is being addressed nationwide; police departments are providing information to their citizens on how to prepare and respond should they become involved in such an incident.”

Cpl. Conroy, a training officer with the Avondale Estates Police Department is conducting the presentation. The city said Cpl Conroy recently attended the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Charleston, South Carolina and participated in a course on the topic.

The city said a question and answer period will follow the presentation.
