City Schools of Decatur (CSD) is holding a planning session and is inviting the community.

The “CSD Strategic Plan Community Engagement Session” is taking place Thursday, Mar. 10 from 6 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. in the cafeteria of Renfroe Middle School at 220 W. College Ave.

A CSD email said, “It is vital that we hear from our stakeholders on the future direction of the school district.”

It invited all CSD stakeholders to participate, including parents, citizens, CSD employees, and high school students.

The email also noted, “An online survey will be available for those who can’t attend the meeting. A link to the survey will appear on the district’s website http://csdecatur.net after the engagement session.”

The meeting comes at a tension-filled moment for the school district. It is facing criticism over the firing of media clerk Susan Riley. Supporters attended Tuesday evening’s school board meeting and spoke on behalf of Riley. Several said CSD has become more bureaucratic and “uncaring.”
