Decatur Superintendent David Dude reports that Decatur High has been temporarily evacuated.

“DHS was evacuated moments ago when a small fire was reported in a bathroom,” Dude said in a Facebook post. “Fire department personnel responded promptly and the fire was quickly put out. Students and staff should be back in the building in the next 10 to 20 minutes.”

Decatur Fire Chief Toni Washington said the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Superintendent Dude wrote on Facebook later in the afternoon, “Many thanks to the Downtown Decatur Fire Department for the extremely fast response to CSD Decatur High School this morning! They received the call at 10:31 am and the first unit was on-site at 10:35 am! Thanks to students and staff as well for their quick and appropriate response to the situation.”
