Thieves have found a favorite target at Suburban Plaza.

After a rash of vehicle break-ins in the LA Fitness parking lot in January, the thieves are at it again.

Maj. Stephen Fore with the DeKalb County Police Department said that on Thursday evening, March 24, the department received reports of five more vehicle break-ins. Fore said the crimes occurred between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. There were no security cameras present, he said.

“Items being taken are electronics left in the vehicle, wallets and cash,” Fore said. “Some were broken into with nothing taken because owners left nothing of value in the car.”

Last month, Fore offered the following tips to help people avoid becoming victims of a vehicle break-in.

“Some tips for your readers would be for them not to leave valuables in their vehicle,” Fore said. “[In] several of these break-ins nothing was taken, but the vehicle was broke into with the belief items [would’ve] been left in the vehicle.”

He also recommends parking as close to a business as possible where foot traffic is higher in order to increase your vehicle’s visibility or parking it in front of large windows, if a business has them.
